Lauren Deaves
My name is Lauren Deaves and I am a qualified and experienced Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) through Australian Association of Social Workers. I completed a Bachelor of Social Work at Charles Darwin University in 2021 while working in the sector full time. I have experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psycho-education, Relaxation Strategies, Skills Training and Interpersonal Therapy. I also have experience in Narrative Therapy, Family Interventions and group programs using a holistic lens.
For the past 10 years I have undertaken roles working in specialised schools with complex young people in South Australia such as FAME Flexible Learning Centre, SASY Specialised Assistance School for Youth and at Junction Australia as a mentor for youth under the Guardianship of the Minister. I was a case manager in the FLO program at Campbell Page and ran camps for Indigenous youth in South Australia. Currently I work in Victoria as a Mental Health Practitioner at a Regional P-12 School. I run one-on-one counselling sessions, group programs, whole school events and health promotion initiatives. Since the commencement of 2024, I have been working at Mallee Border Health Centre and shortly after I gained my Accredited Mental Health Social Worker qualification to become a Medicare provider. In 2025 I have been available to practice out of the clinic most Fridays.
DEAVES SOCIAL WORK has been created to support the rest of the Mallee with their complex needs. I can accept NDIS Social Work clients (self-managed or with a plan), referrals for people that need one-on-one support with mental health diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, borderline personality disorder or trauma and developmental disorders. I can also support clients with grief or family complexities. Additionally, I am a qualified personal trainer so can incorporate these interventions in what I do.
Medicare Sessions
If you are experiencing mental ill health you are now able to book in with Deaves Social Work to address the barriers, struggles and hurdles you are experiencing. Lauren will need a Mental Health Care Plan from your local GP to undertake the sessions under Medicare and provide a rebate for clients. Lauren will complete a bio-psychosocial assessment, develop a plan with your desired outcomes upon consultation. Following this to then teach you focussed psychological strategies to reduce the mental barriers. At the completion of the 5 - 6 sessions a review will be done and sent to the GP to finish the treatment or request for more sessions based on need.

NDIS Social Work
NDIS Social Work is a service provided to individuals who have complex needs. Deaves Social Work will help understand the barriers and create opportunities to increase social and emotional wellbeing through a range of different mediums. A sound plan will be developed and this will be communicated with the client and their provider manager. At the completion of the sessions or at the end of each year a progression report will be available for clients to see how they have improved or are tracking against their NDIS formulated goals.

Mental Health Counselling
I believe that every single human has the ability to grow to be their best self and I love to provide opportunities for my clients to do this. Once the rapport-building stage has been reached, we come up with goals and a vision for which life domains they wish to improve and sound tools will be taught and provided throughout the sessions. Deaves Social Work has an end goal for their clients to build resilience and confidence to understand themselves better. This is with the intention to use focussed psychological strategies taught to improve their social and emotional wellbeing on an independent basis.

Grief Counselling
Grief Counselling can provide understanding and clarity in a time of complete confusion and sadness. Grief is a hard topic to navigate, but Deaves Social Work can provide guiding support for steps to take to move through the complex emotions.

Family Therapy
Family Therapy is incorporating a multidisciplinary approach to assist individuals to solve their problems by looking at the bigger picture. Deaves Social Work helps assist families to come together with the intention of understanding culture and traditions in family dynamics, including varying attachments that can impact connection. We hope to bring everyone together, build understanding and strengths.

SUICIDE PREVENTION 'RUN FOR YOUR MATES'
​As March is Suicide Prevention Month in Australia, I will be raising awareness by partaking in The Shaka Project 'Run For Our Mates' event in 2025. This is with the intention to raise awareness for mental health & those that are struggling or have struggled in the past with mental illness and are at risk of suicide.
As I am a Shaka Project ambassador, I will be posting my runs/walks/rides and tagging The Shaka Project, raising awareness to reach out to your mates and reduce the stigma of getting support. My goal is to mostly run 100ks (otherwise walking/riding when needed) for the Month of March.
I will also be attempting to raise $1000 for The Shaka Project to continue paying it forward to the great work they do! All funds go to providing FREE workshops to community groups, schools and sporting clubs in Australia.
